Mt Cottrell

Large lava shield topped with a lava cone. Remains of crater evident at the summit. This volcano was a major source of lava for the Werribee Plains basalts.

Impressions:

Of the volcanoes close to Melbourne, this is one of the most striking.
When seen from a distance it shows a classic volcano profile, and from the summit there are great views of Melbourne.  Although lava flowed in multiple directions, the ones to the west are most obvious.
