Bald Hill is a prominent composite cone of lava and scoria with a shallow west-facing crater. Lava flows are thin and restricted on the east and north but a thick flow extends from the southwest corner and covers a wide area to the south and west of the volcano. The volcano erupted on the crest of an existing hill in the Palaeozoic sedimentary bedrock, accounting for the prominence of the present Bald Hill.
Aitken Hill is an heavily eroded scoria cone topped with outcroppings from an eroded lava plug and lava flows. It rises out of the new suburb of Greenvale, 3.5km south east of Craigieburn.
Although the summit is private land, it is easily accessible from the streets of the new housing estate.
